Tueini: State should be careful not to overlook rights of journalists

Caretaker Minister of State for Combating Corruption, Nicolas Tueini, said in a statement "we're saddened every time we hear the news of a newspaper or a publishing house's closure. (...) Perhaps the digital media trend is one of the reasons for these closures."

"Whatever the reasons, it is necessary for the State to ensure that the rights of workers, journalists and editors are not ignored and that their dignity is preserved through pension," he said.

"These pioneers in press and media are not responsible for the low incomes or the losses suffered by media institutions, and we must respect their lifelong work and their efforts and intellectual and national contributions," the minister concluded.
